Emanuele Cianchi Ordained to the Diaconate

There was a joyful celebration at Saint Henry’s Cathedral on Saturday, 23 May 2026, when Emanuele Cianchi (born in Florence in 1993), a priesthood candidate from the diocesan Redemptoris Mater missionary seminary, was ordained to the diaconate. Emanuele is a seminarian known at least from Holy Family Parish in Oulu, and during his Mass in Oulu in April, the bishop remarked that he will also be a priest in the future.

A large number of people from Oulu had arrived at the cathedral, as well as members of Emanuele’s Italian family. The atmosphere was joyful and warm. In a manner characteristic of the Neocatechumenal Way, the singing was lively, hands were clapped, and guitar accompaniment crowned the atmosphere. A strong sense of community was present.

Bishop Raimo began the Mass in fluent Italian. It was a fine gesture that added to the joyful atmosphere. Speaking to Emanuele, he said that he has not come to be served but to serve and to bring the message of Christ’s love to all of us. When one sometimes grows tired, one should ask oneself whether one loves Christ. That is the most important thing, and from it one receives strength.

Today the sun shone from a blue sky, the summer day was gentle, and we were able to participate in a beautiful Mass that left us with a joyful and grateful mind. This day too was a sign of the inexhaustible love that is given to us when we receive it with an open heart.

Deacon Emanuele will continue working in Oulu at Holy Family of Nazareth Parish.
