Episcopal Visitation in Kuopio

An episcopal visitation took place in Saint Joseph’s Parish in Kuopio from 24 to 26 April 2026, as the Bishop of Helsinki, Raimo Goyarrola, visited the parish and its diaspora communities.

The bishop arrived in Kuopio on Friday, 24 April, shortly after midday. The visit began with an inspection of the parish sacramental registers and a meeting with the parish clergy. During the afternoon, the bishop met with the parish council, young people, and religion teachers, and later also with the members of the finance council.

On Saturday, visits to Savonlinna and Joensuu were on the programme. The day became long and busy, as the bishop celebrated Mass in both cities and met members of Saint Joseph’s Parish living in the diaspora.

On Good Shepherd Sunday, 26 April, Bishop Raimo celebrated Mass at Saint Joseph’s Church in Kuopio. Among those present were the retired pastor of Puijo Parish, Jaana Marjanen, and Provost Seppo Marjanen.

After lunch, Bishop Raimo and the parish priest, Fr. Donbosco Thomas, continued their journey to Mikkeli, where the bishop celebrated another Mass before beginning his return journey to Helsinki.

The bishop’s visit left a warm and encouraging impression on the parishioners. Many experienced his presence as friendly, supportive, and truly pastoral.
