Fr. Raimo Goyarrola new Bishop of Helsinki
The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Raimo Goyarrola of the Personal Prelature of Opus Dei, former vicar general of the same diocese, as bishop of Helsinki.
Reverend Raimo Goyarrola was born on 20 July 1969 in Bilbao, Spain. In 1987 he entered the Personal Prelature of Opus Dei.
He graduated in medicine and surgery from the Universidad de Navarra and subsequently carried out his philosophical and theological studies at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome, obtaining a doctorate in dogmatic theology.
On 1 September 2002 he was ordained a priest, and incardinated in the aforementioned Personal Prelature. He came to Finland in 2006.
He has held the following offices: chaplain in the Tavasttähti University Residence; university pastoral assistant in Helsinki; teacher of religion in various schools of Helsinki; diocesan representative in the Finnish Ecumenical Council; member of the executive staff and Ethics Committee of the same Ecumenical Council; and military chaplain. He also served many years as vicar general of the Diocese of Helsinki, when Msgr. Teemu Sippo S.C.I. was the ordinary.
