Prayer for the local Church

O God, who in pilgrim Church throughout the world make visible the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church, graciously grant that your faithful may be so united to their shepherd and gathered together in the Holy Spirit through the Gospel and the Eucharist, as to worthily embody the universality of your people and become a sign and instrument in the world of the presence of Christ.

Apostolic Nuncio Visits Finland

Archbishop Julio Murat visited Finland in late September. He reminded us that ”a Nuncio is never separate from the local Church. When he is sent to a country, it is with the purpose that he is part of the local Catholic Church, helps it to grow, gives it advice, and works as a bridge between the Holy Father and the local Church.” The Nuncio has eyes and ears in that location, he can meet people and familiarize himself with different Dioceses. He has the time to travel to different parts of the country -“even though it was not always very easy e.g. in Africa.” Thus the Nuncio gets to know the real catholicity of the Church: “We consist of many different nationalities, citizenships, we have differing sensitivities.” In different parts of the country –and on different continents- the life of the Church may look quite different. “And even then it is only a matter of different expressions of the same faith! In this way people express their joy of being Christians, their pride of being Catholic, and their happiness that they are able to come to church in order to be nourished by the Word of God and Sacraments.” According to Nuncio, this is also true here in the North, despite the fact that we are a small minority.
