After the turn of the year, a new Pastoral Centre will begin its work in the diocese with the aim of strengthening the new evangelisation. The Centre brings together certain existing functions but also introduces some completely new ones. By bringing various activities into one shared space, the goal is to enable broad cooperation and thereby increase the effectiveness of the work.
The Centre will initially comprise five departments: new evangelisation, catechesis (sacramental instruction), religious education (schools), publications, and liturgy. Meisa Dano will begin as the administrative director of the Centre, and the department leaders are Siyan Zhuang and Iita Haataja; the publications department will continue to be led by Katri Tenhunen, and the liturgy department is overseen by the communications director, Marko Tervaportti.
Suitable premises are currently being sought for the Centre’s office; the Catholic Bookshop will also move into these premises. The aim is gradually to expand the bookshop’s selection, especially regarding devotional items, and to employ a dedicated shopkeeper or salesperson.
After the establishment of the Pastoral Centre, the diocesan curia will in essence consist only of its administrative core: the chancery, the financial office—which is responsible for matters such as finance, property and personnel—and communications.
