The Apostleship of Prayer

The Apostleship of Prayer – December 2025 Column

We often say that the world and life are no longer what they used to be. Some changes touch us personally. Other people change as well, even though we all carry desires and needs that remain the same.

For us Christians, it is important that God is unchanging in his love. Everything around us may seem chaotic. Even when the people around us shout loudly and throw stones at us, we must remember to lift our eyes toward heaven, for we can see the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. In our lives we can very quickly and unexpectedly lose something. But the greatest loss is if we lose our faith in God’s existence and in the truth that I am his child.

Jesus said: “If anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well” (Mt 5:40). When he speaks of faith, he says: “You will be hated by all for my name’s sake, but he who endures to the end will be saved” (Mt 10:22).

Our faith is as important as eternal life. Our faith is irreplaceable.

It may come as a surprise that in December we pray especially for Christians who live amid war and conflict. We may see this as a calling: when we contemplate the little Child Jesus lying in the manger, we remember that he is God’s offering, who also asks for our offering. A sacrifice given in love always bears good fruit.

Let us pray…

December
We pray for Christians who live in areas of war and conflict, especially in the Middle East, that they may sow seeds of peace, reconciliation and hope.

January
We pray that prayer with the Word of God may nourish our lives and be a source of hope in our communities, helping us to build an ever more fraternal and missionary Church.
