The traditional pilgrimage to the Church of the Holy Cross in Hattula will take place on Saturday, 13 September 2025, on the eve of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. This year the pilgrimage begins at 12:30 from Hämeenlinna railway station, from where we will walk together in prayer and song along the 8.5 km route to the medieval church. At the church, Holy Mass and the devotion of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross will be celebrated starting at 15:00. After the pilgrimage there will be a shared meal in Hattula, after which the return bus to Helsinki will depart at 18:00.
Those wishing to take part on foot arrive independently at Hämeenlinna railway station, where we begin the walk together. It is also possible to travel directly to Hattula by bus from Helsinki, departing from in front of St Henry’s Cathedral at 14:00.
The participation fee for walking is €15 (+€10 for the return bus to Helsinki). The direct bus option from Helsinki to Hattula and back is €35. All prices include the meal. The participation fees cover the church opening fee, the shared meal, and the bus transport.
