Pastoral Visitation in Kuopio Parish

A pastoral visitation took place in Saint Joseph’s Parish in Kuopio from 24 to 26 April 2026, when Bishop Raimo Goyarrola of Helsinki visited the parish and its diaspora communities.

Bishop Raimo arrived in Kuopio shortly after midday on Friday, 24 April. The visit began with an inspection of the parish sacramental registers and a meeting with the parish clergy. During the afternoon, the bishop met members of the Parish Council, young people, and teachers of religion, and later also members of the Finance Council.

On Saturday, the programme included visits to Savonlinna and Joensuu. The day was long and intensive, as the bishop celebrated Holy Mass in both locations and met members of Saint Joseph’s Parish who live in the diaspora.

On Good Shepherd Sunday, 26 April, Bishop Raimo celebrated Mass at Saint Joseph’s Church in Kuopio. Also participating in the Mass were Rev. Jaana Marjanen, Pastor Emerita of Puijo Parish, and Dean Seppo Marjanen.

After lunch, Bishop Raimo and the parish priest, Fr. Donbosco Thomas, continued their journey to Mikkeli, where the bishop celebrated another Holy Mass before returning to Helsinki.

The bishop’s visit left parishioners with a warm and encouraging impression. Many experienced his presence as supportive, friendly, and affirming of the bishop’s role as shepherd of the faithful.
