Over 1,000 pilgrims from the Nordic countries in Rome

Over a thousand pilgrims from all the Nordic countries took part in the Jubilee Year pilgrimage to Rome, organized by the Nordic Bishops’ Conference at the turn of January and February. The largest group consisted of Swedes, around 550, followed by nearly 250 Norwegians, over 150 Danes, and about 70 Finns and Icelanders each.

Each national group had its own activities during the pilgrimage. The Finnish pilgrims, for example, celebrated Sunday Mass at the Basilica of Saint Sebastian, near the catacombs. On Saturday, February 1, the entire group attended Mass in the Lateran Basilica, and on Monday, February 3, they had a private audience with Pope Francis. In the afternoon, Cardinal Arborelius celebrated Mass for the Feast of Saint Ansgar in St. Peter’s Basilica.
