The activities of the Church of Saint James the Apostle in Lauttasaari have just started. The church belongs to Saint Henry’s Cathedral Parish and therefore does not have its own parish priest. In practice, its activities are coordinated by Fr. Mauri Bravo (040-3259584, mauri.bravo@katolinen.fi). The church, which is part of the multi-building Lauttasaari church complex, is rented from the Helsinki Parish Union. Therefore, no significant changes can currently be made to its internal architectural arrangements.
The activities of Saint Henry’s Cathedral Parish in Lauttasaari began on Sunday, 10 August 2025, at 12:00 noon with a solemn Pontifical Mass. The church, located at Myllykallionrinne 1, 00200 Helsinki, is easily accessible by metro (Lauttasaari/Gyldénintie) and by bus (Route 22 from Helsinki city centre towards Katajaharju, or buses between Espoo and Helsinki travelling along Lauttasaarentie). There is also ample parking space in front of the church.
At the outset, the Mass schedule is planned as follows:
On Sundays (starting 17 August 2025), the main Mass in Finnish will be celebrated at 10:30. At 12:00, there will be Mass for the African community; at 14:00, the Ukrainian community’s liturgy; at 16:00, Masses in various languages; and at 18:00, Mass in English. The Masses in various languages at 16:00 will follow this schedule: 1st and 3rd Sundays in Spanish, 2nd Sunday to be confirmed soon, 4th Sunday in Latin, and 5th Sunday in Tagalog. On the 3rd Saturday of the month at 16:00, Mass will be celebrated in Aramaic.
On weekdays, evening Mass in English will be celebrated at 18:00 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. On Tuesdays, Mass in Latin will be celebrated at 18:00 (every other Tuesday in cooperation with the Catholic Students’ Club).
