Pope Leo XIV has called on all Catholics worldwide to “take part in a day of fasting and prayer on [Friday] August 22, imploring the Lord to grant us peace and justice, and to wipe away the tears of those who suffer because of ongoing armed conflicts.” “May Mary, Queen of Peace, intercede for us so that peoples may find the path of peace,” the Pope says.
The Bishop of Helsinki, Raimo Goyarrola, asks all Catholic parishes in Finland, in accordance with the Pope’s call, to pray especially for peace in all Masses on Friday, August 22, 2025. He also urges all Catholics to turn in their prayers to the intercession of Mary, Queen of Peace, and to take part in this day of prayer by fasting as well.
Fasting can, for example, mean skipping one of the day’s meals, eating less than usual at a meal, or giving up some other form of enjoyment.
