The Bishop of Helsinki, msgr. Raimo Goyarrola, is one of the many Finns who feel a deep connection to Estonian Catholics. Like many others, he is eagerly looking forward to attending the celebrations of Archbishop Profittlich’s beatification in May. The bishop expresses his hope that as many Finns as possible will join in “supporting Tallinn’s young and small diocese, which will finally receive its own national saint.”
“The beatification of Archbishop Profittlich is of great significance to Estonian Catholics and to all the local churches in the surrounding areas. That is why it is good for us to go there in great numbers and thus show our support for our Estonian brothers and sisters.”
Archbishop Profittlich was the administrator of the Apostolic Administration of Estonia. He was arrested by Soviet forces in 1941 and sentenced to death. However, he died in a prison camp before his execution could be carried out, on February 22, 1942. He will be beatified during a solemn Holy Mass in Tallinn on Saturday, May 17, 2025.
