Apostleship of Prayer February 2025

It is said of a Berber tribe in Morocco that its eldest member has the task, every morning at sunrise, of climbing the nearest sand dune to give thanks to the risen sun on behalf of all his sleeping brothers. Such is the task of those who are called to live close to the Lord – all those who stand beside Jesus. He gives thanks while we still sleep. He stands before the throne of God on behalf of humanity, praising Him and praying for mercy for all. This cannot be selfishness. It is love!

One could say that sisters and priests are like a good island on the anthropological map of humanity, and there are many reasons to treat them with kindness.

Throughout this month, we pray in the Church especially for priestly and religious vocations. Jesus is the shepherd of the Church, and by His grace, we have among us people who help us receive the sacraments.

I ask you to remember vocations in your prayers throughout February. Pray also that God may call men and women from our own families and parishes to serve the Church by proclaiming the Gospel. Let us pray that Finland may always have people who help us hear the voice of Jesus, the Good Shepherd.

For Vocations
Lord, call servants to yourself:
priests, deacons, brothers, and sisters.
Help each of us in our own place
to be ready to serve you
and to live for your glory.
Amen.
