Bishop Raimo Goyarrola of Helsinki has ordained priesthood candidate Chien Nguyen as a deacon. The ordination took place at the Church of the Holy Cross in Tampere on Saturday, January 4, 2024. Nguyen is scheduled to be ordained a priest during the diocesan celebration this summer.
“My feelings are calm in every way because we are following Jesus. As a deacon, my thought is how I can share the peace that comes from Jesus with the people I meet,” commented the newly ordained deacon.
Deacon Chien was born and raised in Vietnam and moved to Finland in 2006. After studying at Oulu University of Applied Sciences, he began his priestly studies in 2015 and returned to Finland in early 2024. Since then, he has been serving in the Catholic parish in Tampere, where he plans to continue at least until his priestly ordination.
